Project Recovery
"In The Face of Adversity, a Companions Love is a Powerful Anchor"

The Project Recovery program warmly welcomes individuals facing the difficulties of substance use disorders who are seeking treatment and have a beloved dog or cat needing care during this time.
We understand how important your pet is to you, and we're here to ensure they are looked after while you focus on your healing journey.
Program Guidelines
Project Recovery is committed to providing compassionate, pet-inclusive recovery services while maintaining a safe, healthy, and accountable environment for both participants and their companion animals.
Before Services Begin
All participants must complete a Project Recovery Intake Application and provide the required documentation before services can begin. Eligibility is determined through the intake process, and no services can be initiated until the intake has been reviewed and approved.
Recovery Participation
Participants are expected to remain actively engaged in their recovery program, maintain communication with their Project Recovery Case Manager, and comply with treatment recommendations throughout their participation.
Companion Animal Requirements
To help ensure the health and safety of every animal in our care, companion animals must:
-
Be current on required vaccinations (or willing to become current through the program)
-
Be spayed or neutered (or scheduled for sterilization through the program)
-
Receive any required annual wellness or preventive care
Project Recovery may assist with vaccinations, veterinary care, annual wellness services, and spay/neuter procedures based on eligibility, available funding, and veterinary availability.
Geriatric, special needs, medically fragile, or pets with pre-existing medical or behavioral conditions are welcome; however, a Special Accommodations Waiver and Release must be completed prior to boarding so that appropriate care plans and accommodations can be established.
If you don't qualify for the 'free' assistance, please fill out the Healthy Pet Initiative form:
Boarding & Visitation
Free boarding is available only during approved medical detox and intensive inpatient treatment. Continued boarding after treatment requires approval through the Healthy Pet Initiative (HPI).
Participants are welcome to visit their companion during normal business hours by calling ahead to schedule a visit.
Respect & Responsibility
Participants are expected to treat staff, volunteers, fellow participants, and all animals with respect. The use of alcohol, illegal drugs, marijuana, cigarettes, cigars, vaping devices, and all tobacco products is strictly prohibited anywhere on Serenity Paws property, including the parking lot and surrounding areas such as Mary Kyer Park.
This program includes various services like peer support, housing, employment, and skills training. It focuses on empowering individuals to take control of their own recovery journey and reach their full potential.
Employment & Workforce Navigation
Project Recovery provides resume assistance, interview preparation, and workforce navigation to help participants build meaningful, long-term employment opportunities. When positions are available and a participant is a good fit for the role, Project Recovery participants are given priority consideration for employment opportunities with Serenity Paws and Project Recovery. Employment is never guaranteed and is based on organizational needs, qualifications, performance, and readiness.
Individuals interested in employment with Serenity Paws are not required to have previous professional experience in animal care, a college education, a high school diploma, or a GED. Instead, we look for individuals who are committed to their own recovery, willing to learn, dependable, and dedicated to serving both people and their companion animals with compassion and professionalism.
Successful team members should possess basic reading, writing, and communication skills, demonstrate a willingness to accept coaching and ongoing education, and have a genuine desire to make a positive impact within our community.
For participants who are employed by Serenity Paws, their companion animal is welcome to remain in our program throughout their recovery journey and may accompany them to work when appropriate and in accordance with program and workplace policies.

The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
