Health, Home, Purpose, Community

An ongoing initiative that facilitates recovery from substance use disorders by providing care for pets and service animals while their owners undergo treatment. This program supports individuals on their sobriety journey by ensuring their pets are looked after, allowing them to focus on healing. Once reunited, participants are empowered to achieve self-sufficiency through various support avenues and a paid apprenticeship with Serenity Paws.

Serenity Paws promotes a Healthy Pet Initiative that works closely with all programs.

*The Healthy Pet Initiative by Serenity Paws is a heartfelt program dedicated to ensuring that every family can access compassionate, affordable grooming and care. We believe all pets deserve health and compassionate care, regardless of financial circumstances and life situations.

  • Recovery Supports:

Our non-clinical aid provides emotional, practical, and social support to help individuals maintain remission and live fulfilling lives while also caring for their companion.

  • This includes:

    • Peer support: Guidance and encouragement from individuals who have experienced similar challenges.

    • Supportive housing: Assistance in organizing and providing safe and stable living arrangements.

    • Supported employment: Serenity Paws serves as our primary employer for any candidate and ongoing services are provided to help maintain employment.

    • Skills training and development: Learning new skills to improve job prospects or daily living.

    • Comprehensive community support services: Connecting with local resources and services.

    • Paid ride share: to help candidates meet obligations.

    • Ongoing industry training in an effort to give the resources and knowledge necessary for caring for a pet- ie. grooming, pet medical and first aid care, and pet behavioral training.

Since 2013, Serenity Paws has advocated for sobriety and healing. Our name, Serenity Paws, was given to us by a young lady (Katheryn D) who knew the recovery path well. Her dedication to helping herself and others battle addiction and navigate healing while loving our own pets also aided the founder, Angela Katie Bonham. In the beginning stages of opening the business in 2009, the name came from the renowned prayer that is the centerpiece of our journey, The Serenity Prayer.

*Recognizing that recovery is a multifaceted process that requires ongoing assistance and guidance to ensure individuals not only recover but also thrive in their chosen path, it is highly encouraged that each candidate accept the opportunity to be part of the Serenity Paws family to take advantage of the ongoing support towards continued sobriety and independence.

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
