"In The Face of Adversity, a Companions Love is a Powerful Anchor"- Serenity Paws
Wrap-around Services and Aftercare
The program exists to solve a specific and largely ignored barrier in our local continuum: justice-impacted neighbors who are unhoused or in recovery are often disqualified from workforce and housing pathways because they refuse to abandon their dogs. 'The system' society has normalized, then layers on rigid work rules, fragmented transportation, and justice obligations (UA, classes, court) that collide with entry-level employment. The result is predictable: job loss, missed appearances, cycling homelessness, and relapse.

By integrating Project Recovery and Serenity Paws under one mission. The program combines paid, trauma-informed on-the-job training with structured peer mentorship, pet-inclusive supports, and clinically aligned practices-meeting people where they are without forcing a choice between stability and their companion animals.
We advocate for an employment-first stance, so once a candidate is reunited with their companion they are highly encouraged to accept a job with Serenity Paws or partnering employers.
With this, recovery assistance focuses on integrating individuals with unfortunate life circumstances and justice challenges into the workforce to support their ongoing recovery and societal reintegration. - This isn't just unpaid training to go find a job- this is a job waiting for you!
Recognizing that financial stability is essential for securing housing, transportation, and meeting court obligations, this program actively hires and trains individuals with histories of challenges, helping them build resumes and gain meaningful employment. Without a job, individuals in recovery often face significant hardships, including homelessness, inability to afford basic needs, social stigma, and difficulty accessing additional services, which can hinder their progress and increase the risk of relapse. By providing employment opportunities, the program addresses these barriers, fostering stability, dignity, and community reintegration, ultimately supporting sustained recovery and reducing recidivism.
